WHEN A TREE GETS IN FRONT OF A COMET... (Possum Observatory)

Well, the 'Greenies' out there will hate this, but a giant macrocarpra tree got in the way of Comet 2006 A1 (Pojmanski) so I chopped it down! Yep, that's right, decapitated it. No tree's going to stand in the way of my comet observations and cometography! The photos below show the sequence from when Comet Pojmanski (morning sky) began to disappear behind the tree, and Paul (Roberts Tree Surgeons) cutting the 22 metre big fella down. The last photo is of the comet taken the night after the tree got dropped....

Now for the Greenies; the tree was rotting and needed to go and it was also preventing quite a lot of cometography (photographing comets) and comet observations (and hunting) in the east. When Pojmanski began to slip behind the tree (and before it disappears from NZs skies), I thought long and hard (about 5 minutes), and decided the monster had to go. I stood beside the tree and explained my reasoning before the onslaught (much like a Kalahari bushman tells his prey how he needs its meat to feed his family after a kill). I think it understood...\

Comet Pojmanski disappearing behind the tree

The 22 metre monster in all its glory. Going...

...going...

...gone.

I've named the stump, 'The Pojmanski Stump'. Poor thing.
Comet Pojmanski imaged on the 18th Feb. If the tree was still there this image would be branches only... Bright moonlit sky.
