Royal Astronomical Society of NZ Astrophotography Section (RASNZAPS)

ABOUT THE RASNZAPS

The Royal Astronomical Society of New Zealand Astrophotography Section (RASNZAPS) was created in May 2005 at the request of the RASNZ to help cater to the rapidly growing interest in astrophotgraphy as a result of the explosion of realistically priced digital SLR cameras (and other types) on the NZ and world market. Today astrophotographers can image the sky, check the results immediately, and send the image around the world to hundreds of astronomers all within minutes! The images taken by amateur astronomers today are looking like (and even surpassing) the photographs taken by professional astronomers of yesteryear.

New Zealand has its fair share of astrophotographers, many of whom are getting their work published in international publications. The RASNZAPS hopes to encourage the undertaking of imaging the heavens and to promote fellowship and foster friendships along the way...
