THE GISSY-GATHERING (Thurs 29 Sept - Mon 3 Oct 2005) - Possum Observatory

An informal gathering of astronomers at a dark site outside of Gisborne, New Zealand

Welcome to the Gissy-Gathering page! This gathering of astronomers from around NZ (and Oz?) will occur from Thursday 29th Sept - Monday 3rd Oct, 2005 (come just for the weekend if you want)... It will be held on a small farm 11kms to the west of Gisborne near the little township of Patutahi. The site offers a dark site (apart from the slight glow of 30,000 population Gisborne 11km to the east). The lights of Patutahi are negligable. The weather in Gisborne is often fine and so we're hoping for a clear weekend. The weekend costs $5 per person per night to (cover power and water). Accomodation is either tents, caravans (bring your own), or sleeping communally in a 8 x 6m shed (space is also available in John's house).

If you are keen on coming please contact John Drummond here. My home number is (06) 8627 557, my mobile is 0275 609 287.

(News Flash - we will (most probably) have Possum Observatory and its 16" moved to the site in time for the Gissy-Gathering!!!)
