CANON EOS 10D DIGITAL SLR GALLERY

Possum Observatory

This (unfinished) page shows some images that I took with a Canon EOS 10D SLR digital camera (with interchangeable lenses and a 'B' setting) that Canon NZ kindly lent to me for a period. This NZ$3,999 camera clearly has huge potential for astrophotography - along with it's smaller brother the EOS 300D (NZ$2,600) - and then you can use it during the day!

The camera allows a number of ASA ratings to be set (3200 max for the 10D, 1600 max for the 300D). All images were taken through my 41cm (16") f4.5 Newtonian reflector. The average exposure time with the EOS 10D was 30 SECONDS to 1 minute!!! This lesser time greatly reduces the time during which 'accidents' can occur and time spent guiding - imagine how many objects could be imaged in one night...

M42. EOS 10D - 1 minute exp, camera set to 3200 ASA
Omega Centauri - EOS 10D - 1 minute, 3200 ASA
Centaurus A - EOS 10D - 30 seconds, 3200 ASA
Eta Carinae - EOS 10D - 30 seconds, 3200 ASA
The Jewell Box - EOS 10D - 30 seconds, 3200 ASA
M46 in Puppis - EOS 10D - 30 seconds, 3200 ASA
Tarantula Neb - EOS 10D - 1 minute, 3200 ASA
Sombrero Gal (cropped) - EOS 10D - 1 min, 3200 ASA
M4 - EOS 10D - 30 seconds, 3200 ASA
Comet 2001 Q4 (NEAT) - 30 seconds, 3200 ASA

Crux region - EOS 10D - 30 seconds, 3200 ASA
NGC 6231 in Sco - EOS 10D - 30 seconds, 3200 ASA
