BANDING ON MY 20D CAMERA- Possum Observatory

Recently I purchased a Canon 20D DSLR camera and was interested to see how it would compare with my 10D which I have owned for 2.5 years (for 10D images click here). With the 10D and dark sky I can get 10 minute exposures (my drive limits exposure length) at 800 ISO and have a fairly clean image (apart from the normal noise). However, the 20D exhibited horizontal banding with 6 minute exposures at ISO 800. Basically the banding is in three broad parts, one at the top and bottom third of the image. The third band is a broad darkish band in the central horizontal third. A friend of mine who also has a 20D also has similar banding. See the examples below... Does anyone else have this problem and how does one get rid of it?

Helix - 20D. 22 x 6-10 minutes @ 800asa. 16" f4.5 Newtonian
NGC 7424 in Grus. 20 x 6 minute @ 800asa. 16" f4.5
Note the broad red band along the bottom and top, and the broad dark central band. The lowest dark band is mirror shadow...
