    SCORPIUS (the scorpion)

Scorpius is a splendid southern sky constellation which actually looks like a giant scorpion.  Lying in a very rich section of the Milky Way, scorpius contains heaps of interesting deep sky objects.  Alpha Scorpii (Antares) is a huge red super giant star. Due to its colour and brightness Antares was known as the rival of Mars (see photo under 'Antares' below). Try sweeping Scorpius with binoculars and enjoy the sight...
