Scorpius is a splendid southern sky constellation which actually looks like a giant scorpion. Lying in a very rich section of the Milky Way, scorpius contains heaps of interesting deep sky objects. Alpha Scorpii (Antares) is a huge red super giant star. Due to its colour and brightness Antares was known as the rival of Mars (see photo under 'Antares' below).
