Ara lies south of the tail-end of Scorpius and therefore contains many deep sky objects. To the naked eye Ara appears as roughly two lines of faint stars lying parallel to each other. This constellation originated in Greek and Roman times and supposedly represents the alter upon which Centaurus, the Centaur, was going to sacrifice Lupus the wolf. It is well worth visiting the celestial delights in this constellation. My favourite object in this constellation is the globular cluster NGC 6397...
