The Cook Observatory located on top of Kaiti Hill in Gisborne has the distinction of being the world's easternmost observatory.

Public viewing nights are held on Tuesdays. The door is open from 7.00 - 7.30pm in winter and 8.00 - 8.30pm in summer. A video/slide presentation is provided followed by night sky observing (weather permitting). $2 cost.  Group bookings are available, contact Huon Chandler on (06) 867 7901...
